When I graduated from college last spring, it really hit me that I was an adult. I was grown-up. I was a freakin’ college GRADUATE, and I was living the dream. How did that happen!?!
I had a hard time processing the fact that I was now responsible for my own life trajectory. It’s not like I could rely on a classes and credits schedule handed to me by a counselor that told me where I’d be in exactly six months from now. I was now in charge of my destiny, my future, my reality.
I think that it’s so important that we realize as soon as possible how much control we do have in our own life. It’s more than just going along with the flow and waiting for things to happen TO you; if you want something to happen, you need to make it happen. But you have an ally in this: the universe. Learning to work with the universe and not against it was a big life-changing moment for me as I realized that I could manifest my own reality simply by believing it into existence.
It may sound a little hokey spelled out like that, but honestly, I’m a total believer in the idea that the thoughts in your head dictate your real life. When you’re living your best life, totally confident and kickin’ butt, you’re happy and successful and proud. When you feel distressed, you bring down those positive vibrations and begin to attract negativity into your life. You know the saying, “When it rains, it pours?” That really is true, or at least it’s true that when you’re having a bad day, you’re going to be 10 times more likely to notice all the bad, stupid, frustrating things about your life in those negative moments.
I like to think of this concept as me taking control of my own life and shaping my own future. I wouldn’t even consider myself a control freak by any means, but just knowing that the universe has got my back, and that I can bring positive things into my path simply by staying optimistic is really empowering to me.
I truly believe that good vibes attract great opportunities, and I’ve seen this manifest itself SO MANY TIMES even just in the last few months as my husband and I have made big life decisions and big business decisions. When I needed something, instead of obsessing over how unlikely it was that I’d get it, I started to visualize a reality where I had it. And guess what? It came to me, in the most surprising of ways, but it came.
That kind of thing can happen to YOU if you just picture the positive outcome. It’s almost like placing an order at a restaurant, but you’re placing an order with the universe. And once you place that order, you MUST behave and plan as if it is already set in motion, that it’s already coming to you or already happening.
This is totally my way of extending my understand of the adage “you get what you give”, and I’ve found it to be incredibly successful as I make decisions for my family and my business. If you find yourself in a rut, why not give it a try? You never know - maybe I’ve caught onto something crazy and magically, and besides; what do you have to lose?
